Historical and archaeological heritage
Oia is home to a valuable historical and archaeological heritage that enhances its appeal as a tourist destination. The most outstanding landmark is the Monasterio de Santa María de Oia, an impressive 12th-century building located by the sea, unique for its coastal setting.
The municipality also preserves numerous remains of the castrexo culture, including the vestiges of ancient hillforts and petroglyphs, bearing witness to human presence since prehistoric times. Churches, cruceiros and traditional mills complete a journey through history that blends harmoniously with the natural surroundings.
